On September 21, we’re getting together in public places everywhere for "wake-up call" flash-mob events, pressing our Senators to take action on clean energy jobs & climate!
“Flash-mobs” are fun demonstrations in which participants assemble suddenly in a public place and perform a creative action that commands attention and sends a strong message. With these events, we'll call on our Senators to stand up for a clean energy economy, and build our movement by inviting new people to the critical work that we are doing on our campuses and in our communities.
So, are you ready to rock? Here’s what to do:
1. Search for existing events in your area below;
2. Contact the Organizer of a nearby event and ask how you can help, or if there’s nothing nearby, click the “Create Event” button in the upper right-hand side of the page
3. If you're new, Create a profile in this new social activist community, check your email for a confirmation link, and click the link to confirm.
4. Register your Wake-Up Call event! (It's okay if details change later -- the most important thing is to get the date, location and contact info right now. You'll be able to edit this later.)
While you're at it, you can register your local group in the system. Once your group is registered you can easily recruit in your community, and promote all your actions on a national scale
We're imagining events that are fun, self-organizing, and news-worthy. Here's what to do in a few easy steps:
1. Get some creative inspiration from the Wake-Up Call toolkit
2. Promote the event far & wide -- word of mouth, Facebook, twitter, etc.
3. Alert the press a few days beforehand (don't worry, we'll provide a sample media advisory to everyone who signs up!)
4. Do it! -- and remember, have fun, get creative, go all out!
5. "Wake Up" your Senators with dozens of phone calls! (again, don't worry -- we'll provide instructions, contact info, & a sample script...just have folks bring cell phones.)
